President's Message
Happy New Year!
I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of the awesome things we accomplished as a club in 2022, as well as a peek at what's in store for 2023.
Last year, we:
Donated and planted $10,000 worth of trees throughout Palo and Marion
Built and stocked a Little Free Food Pantry in Marion
Retrofitted a trailer into a movable can/bottle recycling center
Picked up bottles for deposit each month at two local bar/restaurants
Collected bottles/cans at Marion community events
Partnered with No Regrets Running on a clothing drive for refugees
Welcomed and launched Rotary Exchange youth
Collated ESL packet materials at Catherine McAuley Center
Represented our club at a Cornell College clubs and orgs fair, with the hope of reigniting Rotaract there
Welcomed several new members, including Steve Towe, Jen McKiness, Nick Hassinger, and Michael Nelson
Katie, Nick, John G., John S., Steve Todd, Rebecca, Shari, Gene, Erin, Steve Towe, and several others have been putting in hours at various community organizations, from Linn County Trails Association and Catherine McAuley Center to Sleep in Heavenly Peace and Rotary Youth Exchange. We see you :-) Thank you for taking care of the community.
Looking ahead, we have big plans for the club, such as potentially partnering with Linn County Trails Association and the Metro Rotary Clubs for a trails project in 2023/24 and taking our can trailer on a parking lot tour to raise more awareness of the service.
It's going to be a busy and fulfilling spring! I couldn't think of better people to spend it with. Happy New Year - thank you for all you do.
RAGBRAI, Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, is more than just a bike ride, it is an epic eight-day rolling festival of bicycles, music, food, camaraderie, and community. It is the oldest (50 YEARS!), largest, and longest multi-day bicycle touring event in the world. For the second year, Linn County Rotary Club is sponsoring the Rotary RAGBRAI team!
