Service Project: Tree Planting at Indian Creek Nature Center
What a fun and drizzly day to plant trees!
We planted about 40/100 trees our club helped purchase through a grant from the Rotary International Foundation. This puts a tiny dent in replacing the 1M trees lost in Linn County from the 2020 derecho.
We even had a community volunteer, Ron B., join the project!
Thank you to everyone who helped and donated to add trees to this beautiful park.
Speaker: Freedom Foundation
Matt Dlouhy (on the left in the photo) and Roger Jensen from the Freedom Foundation in Cedar Rapids visited our Rotary Club meeting and told us about this local nonprofit that serves military veterans in eastern Iowa with camaraderie, food, games, and more. Jensen, a Marine veteran who served in Vietnam, emphasized that Freedom Foundation is not a government organization, and exists only through private donations. Up to 75 veterans visit the Welcome Center daily for the friendship, a Thursday luncheon, and the food pantry. Soon, they'll move to a new and larger location to support the expanding programs at 4001 Center Point Road.
