In November, Rotary Club of Linn County placed a tree plaque at the recently constructed Marion Stadium in memory of Greg Hapgood.
Greg was a founding member of the Marion-East Cedar Rapids Rotary Club, the sponsoring club when our own Linn County Rotary was getting started as a satellite club. Greg was a past president, past District Governor, and friend to many of our members. Donations were given by members after his passing to purchase the tree and plaque. The site was chosen because of Greg's ties to the school district. He was a founding member and long-time president of the Marion Independent School Foundation, served on the school board, and his wife and all four children were Marion graduates.
The plaque reads, "In memory of Gregory O. Hapgood Proud Rotarian and Champion for Marion schools" The plaque was placed with help from Superintendent Janelle Brouwer and the tree planted by district staff. It is located near the southwest entrance of the Stadium.
