Service Project: Marion Cares

Due to our first meeting of the month landing on Valentine's Day, we decided to move our meeting up a week. We joined at the Schultz home and prepared 42 freezer meals for Marion Cares. They will distribute the dishes to Marion families with food insecurity.

Service Project: CPR at Marion Fire Department

Our Rotary Club hosted a very successful Community CPR training class today at the Marion Fire Department.

There were 35 students, bringing the total to 315 people trained in CPR in either Marion or Mount Vernon-Lisbon over the last few years through our club efforts.

Six firefighters from the MFD did the training today, with help from the Marion Police Department.

Besides learning how to perform CPR, class participants also learned:
  1. In a cardiac arrest event, survival odds decrease 10% every minute that CPR is delayed. Seconds count. Bystander CPR increases survival rate by three times.
  2. You are most likely to need to use your CPR skills on a family member or friend.
  3. 10,000 cardiac arrest events occur every year in a workplace. CPR is started in only 46% of those events.
  4. Good Samaritan laws prevail in the event you need to perform CPR. If you act reasonably and in good faith, you’re protected from liability in the event of a bad outcome.

Social: Quarter Barrel

Club members, spouses, children, our in-bound RYE student, ADG Dennis Jordan, and DG Carole attended our club social at Quarter Barrel at our last regular club meeting in February. We enjoyed fellowship over pizza 🍕 and drinks🍺

DG Carole presented to President Katie a Rotary Citation, an award from Rotary International that recognizes the hard work clubs do throughout the year. Also presented was a banner showcasing our club as one of only 1,530 clubs to achieve Top Three Highest in Per Capita Annual Giving, one of only 3,800 clubs worldwide to attain status as an Every Rotarian, Every Year Club, and one of only 4,500 clubs worldwide to become 100% Foundation Giving Club. We placed #3 in our district in per capita Annual Fund giving to the Rotary Foundation. Congratulations, Rotarians!

These awards were due to the efforts of Past President Mariah Obiedzinski.

In addition, President Katie presented Becky Esker with her first Paul Harris Fellow. Becky participated in District 5970’s Rotary Rush, a yearly campaign where an anonymous donor matches their gift to the annual fund of the foundation. Congratulations, Becky!
