Safety Fair
100 kids brought their parents to the community Wellness Safety Fair this year. 75 helmets were given out. There was a drawing to give away 15 backpacks filled with fun stuff. A car seat was given to a family who needed one. They picked it up from the police station where they are taught how to install the car seat and make sure the right size was provided for the child.
Kids explored and learned about a fire truck that was parked nearby. The Cedar Rapids Police had a cop car and McGruff taught stranger danger to the kids. Mr Shucks, the Kernels mascot, made an appearance as well!
Several area agencies had tables at the fair:
Central Furniture Rescue
Young Parents network
Willis Dady
United Together We Stand
Cedar Rapids Transit
Central Church Of Christ
A hot dog picnic was provide for a $5 donation as a fundraiser for the Cleveland Area Neighborhood Association. They made about $300. All food was donated by Hy-Vee.
The safety fair was a great experience! It was so lovely to see all the kiddos getting their passports stamped at the different booths. There was plenty to see and do!
Club Social
At our club social on August 25, we opened up a time capsule of nearly 100 years of Rotary memorabilia from the former Mt Vernon-Lisbon Rotary Club. It was sponsored by the Belle Plaine Rotary Club in 1924. The coolest artifact we found were the original membership applications for the first 21 chartered members of the club! Definitely worth framing!
